Ebony S. Muhammad (EM): As-Salaam Alaikum dear brothers! Briefly, tell the H2H readers a little bit about yourselves and your area of expertise.
Mosque Flow (MF): Walaikum Salaam Sister Ebony! Thank you so much for inviting us to share our experience with your wonderful audience! We are truly humbled and grateful for this opportunity.
We’re a family business excited to introduce a new brand that reflects the lifestyle and culture of our faith, which is Islam. Our Dad, Brother Jeffrey B. Muhammad is a college professor specializing in Civil Engineering CAD Design. He’s also a digital visual artist, and enjoys combining his talents to create some really awesome work. We’re two Brothers out of six siblings, Ahmad and Maajid Muhammad. We recently graduated from our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) high school and we’re currently studying Architectural & Engineering CAD Design in college with our Dad. How cool is that?!
Our love for Islam, fashion and 3D design quickly sparked a new interest in us for entrepreneurship. Even our little Brother, Makai is part of our team and he’s developing some awesome new designs!
EM: You’ve launched a high-end jewelry company, Mosque Flow. How was it conceived? How did the idea come to you and how did it grow from there?
MF: In our fields of work and study, we’re constantly involved in the design process. So, we’re always talking about new ideas. And one day it just clicked, “We should start a small business creating things that reflect our way of life!” So, we combined our artistic and technical skills and with just a little research we discovered that everything we needed to get started was right there, and we went for it!
EM: What form of jewelry does Mosque Flow feature and why did you choose this item first?
MF: Our first ideas were actually not our first release, we put them on hold for a very special reason. We were inspired by the social media work that Brother Jesse Muhammad (award-winning blogger and journalist) has done over the last few years on behalf of The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. So we wanted to honor Brother Jesse with a one of a kind gift… a lapel pin that reflects his work with The #FarrakhanTwitterArmy (FTA). Surprising him with the gift was such an awesome moment! It actually caused us to believe in ourselves, that we could make something real and meaningful for someone! So we teamed up with Brother Jesse to create the #FTA brand of pins as our first product instead of our original line. We also introduced premium quality Mosque Flow brand t-shirts named ‘5-Star’ as a reflection of quality we strive to produce.
