Jesse Muhammad: You went non-stop in 2009. Graduated from high school, entered college, speaking engagements, released a book and more. How did you feel about this past year in terms of setting goals and meeting them?
Keith J. Davis Jr.: This has definitely been a good year as a whole, but in terms of goal setting, I feel this year has been a year of preparation and planning. It reminds me of the old game tee-ball, because I’m setting everything in position to knock it out the park in this year to come.
I’m working on a solid game, mastering my craft, and equipping myself with all the tools necessary to succeed and take my business to the next level.
JM: What has been the response to your book “Young? So What!”? Why should young people even pick it up?
KD: Over the past year, I’ve had an outstanding response to the book Young? So What! Selling 2,000 copies and now on to the second reprint, I feel truly blessed and excited. My goal is to expose Young? So What! to every aspiring entrepreneur and even those who don’t have a clue what they want to pursue in life.
And for those who have invested in their own copy, from their response, I’ve heard everything from “great book, it has really inspired me to start my own business,†to “after reading Young? So What! I have a better understanding of what I want to do with my life, because before I was really unsure.†And it’s response like that, why I tell young people to read the book, not because it’s my book, but because it will challenge you as well as open your mind.
JM: You’re enrolled at the University of Houston. How was your first semester? How does college life compare with your days at Cy-Springs High School?
KD: Ugh (smile) college in its self, has been a challenge. Academically it’s definitely a step above high school and you quickly find out if work is not put in the equation, great results aren’t coming out. And so this semester, I didn’t do as well as I would have liked, but I have it in my mind that next semester, “I got to get on my grind!†And not that I’m making excuses, but another challenge I faced this semester was trying to balance both education and business. Wanting to be involved in my career and also knowing the importance of continued education; keeping the two together was difficult at times.
JM: You’re not even 20-years old and you got your game face on. I see you as one to watch in 2010. Tell us what we have to look forward to from you in the New Year.
KD: Year 2010, I truly believe is going to be a blessed year! I have a couple of things in the pipe as of now and my goal is to continue to stuff it. In January I start taking class to get my real estate license. I’ll be interning under Danny Nguyen, commercial real estate broker, to learn as much as I can; I understand it’s a cut- throat industry but if in the right position, at the right time, it can lead to great opportunities!
Also in January I plan on performing a live recording of a 45 minute talk entitled “The Opportunity is Now!†As well as increased speaking engagements, continued book promotions, and to top it off, I plan to start recording what will be a one-year documentary. The documentary will basically be a testament of the great things that can be accomplished with the right mindset, a solid game plan, and a relentless work ethic in a year’s time… also including speaking engagements, events, motivational messages, and more.
