Commanding the attention of over 250 young girls throughout the greater Houston area can be a daunting task but not for the sisters of Queendom Come Inc. (QCI). Founded in 2015 by mighty M.G.T. (Muslim Girls in Training): Sister Wakiti Muhammad, Sis. Sadiyah X Evangelista, Sis. Qiana X Manns, Sis. Oshea Muhammad and Sis. Patricia Muhammad, these fascinating women took on the mission of helping young girls ages 9-17 to discover and reclaim their divine purpose.
Throughout the fiscal school year, Queendom Come Inc. hosts various workshops in their annual program empowering their participants to embrace the majesty of femininity and virtue and host annual Sister Summits to reinforce the principles taught in their program. This year’s Finding Your Path To Purpose Sister Summit was fashioned around The Wizard of Qz as the summit’s theme.
Dramatically composed and engaging throughout, the opening scenes of the program began with a theatrical introduction by talented Sis. Candace posing as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. She opened up the program by introducing the idea of purpose and was whisked off the stage in a whirlwind storm leading to the introduction of the first Queen, Sis. Wakiti, who gave the audience profound insight into the meaning and purpose of ‘the storm’ that we all have in our lives. “We were born to fight but we were born to win as well,” she said.
Once the girls were able to understand the storm, Queen Sadiyah, speaking on People along your Path to Purpose, presented to the audience the meaning of the various obstacles that come about on that journey, which was represented by the various characters Dorothy met along the way to meet the Wiz. For example, she demonstrated how the Scarecrow represents our underdeveloped mental body and what it takes to improve upon our mental power and capabilities. “God will give us angels in our lives. God will send us people in our lives when we are going through storms,” she said.
Queen Oshea followed up on the path with many interactions between the students in getting them to internalize why having character is an integral part of the journey of weathering the storm. The girls were involved in a battle of brilliance with intense debates and sharing out their ideas of what qualities make a person of good character. And to culminate the experience, the girls got into groups to contest one another by developing a one minute cipher (QCI’s first ever Cypher Challenge) with the chorus line of ‘On My Way Up.”
Closing out the conference, Queen Qiana gave an enthralling segment on Standing in Your Purpose and finding the good in what life has given us and being grateful for it because, “Your life as it is today is going to help you to get to where you need to be,” she said. And shortly after receiving this pivotal message, Sis. Qiana made sure that the girls understood that our mental activity must match our physical activity. And so the girls were gathered into groups and led off to an obstacle course in which they had to race against one another carrying an egg to the finish line. The egg representing how we handle ourselves as we go through ‘obstacles’ in our lives. Not realizing how time had flown by, Sis. Candace returned with her closing performance letting them know that we all have our own tailored made journeys that can lead us to the ultimate path of greatness in our Brand New Day!
“Queendom Come was such a motivational and marvelous event because it teaches young girls like me to feel confident and to be ourselves. We are also taught the importance of “Living life with purpose.” One of my main highlights of the day is when we were referred to as Queens. I find this so highly important because sometimes we must be reminded that we are indeed Queens,” said Sis. Kameelah, who is 14 years old.
Truly looking forward to next year’s Sister Summit which is scheduled for April 21, 2017!
