Covered Girl Twitter Chat Defends Farrakhan Against Recent Attacks

Amid recent attacks thrown at the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and lies spewed by mainstream media, women of the Nation of Islam took to Twitter once again to defend the name of Farrakhan.

Topics included comments made by Alyssa Milano, Debra Messing and a statement made by the Women’s March, all regarding the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Alyssa Milano, an actress and activist, is refusing to speak at upcoming Women’s March events unless Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour, both activists and organizers of the Women’s March, denounce Minister Farrakhan for what they consider to be anti-Semitic remarks.

In the past, Mallory has had to defend her decision to work with the Minister and to attend events such as Saviours’ Day earlier this year and Justice Or Else! in 2015. Milano was among those who called Mallory out for “turning a blind eye to the hate spoken about a group of people.” Others called for her resignation, according to Atlanta Black Star.

“Will and Grace” star Debra Messing called out the Women’s March for not denouncing Minister Farrakhan. On top of that, she supported Milano’s decision to distance herself from the march.

What do Nation of Islam women have to say about that?

“Tonight we stand to defend the Honorable Minister @LouisFarrakhan against blatant lies that have circulated. Tonight those lies will be dismantled,” was the initial tweet by Ebony Muhammad, moderator of the chat.

Participants were asked to explain why claims of Minister Farrakhan being an anti-Semite, a bigot, a hater of the LGBTQ community and a man who’s against women, are untrue.

The sisters began firing off immediately.

A1: The issue with The Minister is he CAN'T be run off. He will not bow, because the power that backs him is greater than ANY power that attempts to come against him this is why they must lie they find weak ones who need their favor or those who rely on the wicked for sustenance.

Many women said Minister Farrakhan can’t be classified as a bigot because of all of the friendships he has with people from various backgrounds. Not only that, but he lives by the principle of seeking knowledge.

A popular lie going around about Minister Farrakhan is that he hates the LGBTQ community. The women participating in the chat debunked the claim.

I remember the minister saying that some of the brightest among us come from our LGBTQ+ Family (he calls them family). And that we can’t go anywhere without them. So…. I don’t know where they get this lie from. #CoveredGirl #Farrakhan

The women also rejected the idea that denouncing Minister Farrakhan would take away from his work, and they directly challenged Alyssa Milano and Debra Messing on their motives and their seemingly hypocritical stance.

Ebony S. Muhammad (EM): There is a very historic fashion week taking place, the first of its kind and you have been invited to be part of this incredible event! What exactly is taking place and how were you brought on board as a designer?

Carmin Muhammad (CM): Yes ma’am. First I’d like to start by saying As-Salaam Alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak to all my extended family of believers and your audience of readers.

This historic and amazing event is the Torino Fashion Week in Italy June 29- July 5, 2017. A couple of weeks ago I was blessed to meet a very powerful individual Alia Khan Chairwomen and founder of the International Design Council of Dubai via a business associate. This meeting ultimately lead to me receiving a personal invitation from Ms. Khan to be a part of Torino Fashion Week. She informed me that the International Design Council , and Mercedes Benz and Torino would be hosting at this major fashion Week the first ever segment of modest designers at a major fashion week event. She went on to state that never before had this ever occurred in the history of main stream fashion. And if you were to compare the growth of modest fashion to a country it would be the third largest in the world. Sister Ebony, let me tell you I cried like a newborn baby for three days thanking Allah for this wonderful blessing. Honestly, I’m still overwhelmed to have the opportunity to represent myself as a Muslim Girl Training and General Civilization Class (MGT-GCC) on a world stage while showcasing my collection, is so humbling. I can share Al-Nisa Designs that have been inspired by this great teaching.

EM: This is an all Islamic fashion week. Exactly how many designers will convene in Italy? What are you most excited about and how do you anticipate the spirit will be especially coming right out of Ramadan?

CM: This show is a mainstream Fashion Week Show with your powerhouse major players in the Industry like Louis Vuitton and others. The only difference is that now modest fashion designers will have their own segment of scheduled shows over the weekend. There are over 125 modest designers from around the world participating, and we all have our own individual shows. There are five from the United States, and to my knowledge I’m the only Black Designer participating. It is so humbling. I’ve seen the profiles of a lot of the modest designers, and their designs are very impressive and it’s evident that they have real financial backing. The greater blessing is to experience this following the month of Ramadan; after a journey of Praying, Fasting, and cleansing oneself to become closer to Allah. Your spirit has been renewed. For me to receive a blessing like this at the onset of Ramadan, was a personal affirmation of Allah saying, “I see you little sister making your bean soup, I see you obeying the Restrictive Laws, I see you getting up for prayer, I see you fasting, I see you paying your charity I, Allah, see you. I see all your good, and there is a reward for your good.” Nothing goes unnoticed by God.

EM: Does this Torino Fashion Week mean for you and Al-Nisa Designs? What do you see coming from such an amazing opportunity in the near and distant future?

CM: First I ‘d like to say that for me this opportunity is so much bigger than Al-Nisa Designs. It’s about the Women of the Nation Of Islam and the Women of the world, all 196,940.000 square miles. It’s about A New Dress, A New Mind and A New Women. What I see is an opportunity to educate myself in an up close and personal way about the business of fashion and manufacturing. There is a science to business, and we have not been taught that. Over this weekend I will have scheduled meetings with buyers, investors, manufactures, wholesale high end fabric brokers etc. There will be individuals present from every aspect of the fashion business, therefore, I plan to be a student and soak up all the knowledge I can receive.

The goal is to be in a position in the near future to not just design my line, but to produce my own clothing, while providing my sisters from around the world with beautiful cutting edge fashions. This year alone in the region of the Gulf, it has been estimated that women’s clothing will top gross sales at about $486 million, $150 million more than last year’s earnings. Amazing!

EM: Is there anything else you would like to add?

CM: Yes I’d like to say thank you to all the Sisters of my faith and Women who have inspired me with the support of purchasing Al-Nisa Deisgns over the past 20 plus years! All praises are due to Allah! Along the way there have been many bumps and bruises, setbacks and hiccups, but by the grace of all mighty God, Allah, we have endured the trial and it has brought me to where I ‘ma today. Hard trails are necessary to establish truth. All Praises are due to Allah.

Every day I receive news from the International Design Council and the Organizers of this event important updates about the show. Some of the exciting announcements have been that there will be four designers selected as top finalist. The judges of the modest designers category will include the Louis Vuitton Ambassador and other elite designers from main stream fashion. The designers selected as finalist will receive amazing opportunities that will include deals with Louis Vuitton and others, a media and print ad campaign all over Paris, displays of their designs at top Paris showrooms. Also because of the historical significant the show is now scheduled to be filmed by an award winning film producer to be shown in various countries from around the world.

I’m asking for your love and prayers for our success. At The forefront of my thoughts are the words of Master Fard Muhammad when He said, “I can tell everyone that the most beautiful nation is in the wilderness of North America”. And I will stand proud and tall as an MGT in Italy on that runway Insha’Allah, because this is who I am and this is where Allah Has brought me!

Al-Nisa Designs: Taking Islamic Fashion to the Next Level w/ Designer Carmin Muhammad

It is reported that Islamic fashion represents $237 billion in retail annually, which is nothing to wink at. Vogue Magazine recently released its Vogue Arabia edition that features modestly dressed women and Muslim culture from that region, which conveys that modesty is not confined nor that it’s to be seen as unattractive. However, this is nothing new to the women in the Nation Of Islam! Sister Carmin Muhammad, Designer and Owner of Al-Nisa Designs says that she plans to take her line to the next level.

With only a little over a month beyond the first annual Islamic Fashion Weekend held in Atlanta (Oct. 13-16), Mrs. Muhammad has her eyes set on introducing her line and the lines of other Designers in Dubai, Allah willing. This event will take place before an International audience of Middle Eastern women at the first ever Eid Celebration fashion showcase to be held as one of the country’s celebrations on the first day of Eid June 25, 2017 in Dubai. This will also be the first time a fashion event has ever been hosted during there three nights of official celebrations that attract millions from around the region. In a recent interview with Hurt2Healing Magazine, the high fashion designer stated, “We decided that we would do this international show in Dubai where we will introduce the women Islamic designers from our country to the women in that region and be able to see the fabulous fashion to purchase, partake in and wear.”

Along with introducing Dubai to the Islamic designers from the United States, Mrs. Muhammad stated that her international Islamic Fashion Week will hopefully one day serve as a platform for e-commerce and business trade. “The second part of that is to bring the two cultures together, because at the end of the day we’re all Muslim and Modest dressed women who love to look beautiful while promoting our faith. We are going to change the way the world sees fashion as it pertains to Islam”, she explained.

Yet, her eyes are not only focused on bringing the Islamic cultures together, she has opened some of the designs from her line to women of various religions and cultures. Al-Nisa Designs will cater to women in politics, entertainment, women who are mothers, and in general who ultimately want to look and feel attractive.

Beginning now through December 6th, Al-Nisa Designs has launched its Winter Flash Sale, where women from all over can place their orders and expect to receive them as soon as late January of 2017. There are approximately 8-10 pieces to select from with various color choices to offer a more custom experience.

Ase.Èna Islamic Fashion Line Debut

Ebony S. Muhammad (EM): First and foremost, congrats on the launch of your new Islamic fashion line! What is the name of your line, it’s meaning and how did you come into being a fashion designer?

Aneesa Muhammad (AM): Thank you very much! The name of my fashion line is Ase.Èna (pronounced ACE-ENA). It is literally my name spelled backwards.

I chose that name, because in whatever I wanted to do with my life I wanted to make sure my name was a part of it. So after I’m gone, people will know that I was here.

How did I become a fashion designer/seamstress? Well I happen to be under 5 feet and under 100 pounds, so finding clothes that fit right or that fit at all were very hard for me. Every person that has actually made something for me did it incorrectly, because they didn’t understand my size. Therefore, I began creating my own clothes that were good for me and made me feel good as a woman, yet, that was still modest.

Soon after, I realized other women had the same struggle I had. Whether they were tall, short, skinny, heavy etc. Every woman I came across was looking for something that made them feel like a woman.

My inspiration for my line came from the movie The Matrix. I was so in love with the character Trinity. I loved everything she wore and how confident she was. That black leather jacket was my favorite! I drooled over the way it flowed, everything about it was the epitome of BOSS to me. A lot of my designs are actually inspired by that look and it’s sharpness.

EM: You are debuting your new line by way of a fashion show this coming January, which is exciting and I’m sure a lot of work. Tell us a little bit about the show, such as the theme. What has the response been like since announcing the show?

AM: Oh my God! I’m super excited for this! It’s my baby.

Well the show is January 21, 2017, starting at 4pm in Plainfield, New Jersey. The theme is “Cards”, hence my logo bring a spades. So everything will be white and black.

I plan to feature a full variety of garments and outfits for men, women, and children in the show. I wanted to break up the pattern of just showing women go down a runway. Men wear clothes too (laughs). So it’ll be sportswear, day-to-day clothes, work clothes, etc. Everything you will see, you will be able to purchase. From the hats to the scarves to the jewelry.

Lastly, the responses have been amazing! I’m very excited about what is to come in the near future and after the show. I’m already making arrangements for my next move.

EM: I see that there will be other designers participating in your show as well. What do each designer bring individually, and what do you anticipate it will be like having everyone under one roof and one runway?

AM: This is part is by far one of the most exciting things about what is taking place.

All of us in one accord under one roof, doing God’s work. The amount of youth in this show is going to be epic.

I wanted the younger generation in The Nation Of Islam to make some noise, because we have so much talent just waiting to be revealed. I would love to be an agent for that. Each designer brings their own personality to the table with their fashion. One designer in particular sales very Diva attire. Another sister sales more laid back day-to-day clothes, and then we have a brother who sales his line of day-to-day wear. So everyone has something amazing to offer The Nation Of Islam and the World.

EM: Just this past Holy Day Of Atonement weekend in Atlanta, the Nation Of Islam hosted its first annual Islamic Fashion Weekend and fashion show. It was streaming live via social media. From the reactions of those around the world, including by men, it seemed to have set a new standard to fashion across the board. How do you see modesty as becoming more desirable to those outside of the Islamic faith? In what ways do you seek to continue that standard of high civilization with your line and upcoming fashion show?

AM: What I noticed the most is women, even in Islam, finding a struggle for balance when it comes to everyday wear. Like what do I wear to work? That’s what I mostly like to be focused on, and I believe that is a major part of my contribution in the modest fashion world. Designing and creating things that the regular woman on the go can put on hassle-free and still look FA-BU-LOUS and most importantly modest.

I believe that women don’t want to feel so pressured into buying the trash in the clothing stores. Where, if you’re not showing your backside, your showing your cleavage. And if you do want to be covered your best bet is to wear a huge knitted sweater from Forever21 or a Nike sweat suit. I have to believe that women want to do better but just don’t have the avenue to do so…… I’m creating an avenue by Gods grace.

Promoting Modest Fashion: Halimah Nia Muhammad writes on why she wants to become the 2015 Fashion IT Girl

My name is Halimah Nia Muhammad. I am 17 years old and an aspiring fashion designer. I was taught by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan that each and every one of us have a purpose and mission in life. We all have something that we can do excellently that can benefit and serve people.

I believe my mission is as follows: To encourage self love and modest fashion for women and girls. I aspire to do so as a modest fashion designer with a message of self love and respect.

This has been a dream of mine since I was very young. At around 5 years old I would sketch designs, safety pin my mothers draping scarfs together to make dresses, and have mini amateur fashion shows down my hallway. At that time I was showing early signs of what was to come. My parents invested in sewing classes for me, and strived to keep me focused on educating and developing myself. Today, I am approaching my high school graduation. In the fall I will be a fashion design student at Kent State University, one of the best fashion schools in the country. I currently have a youtube channel and website where I strive to promote modest fashion, self love, and respect as well.

I am currently competing to become a 2015 Fashion IT girl! Winning this competition will allow me to have a paid 2 week fashion internship in New York City with two fashion companies ‘Fame&Partners’ and ‘Asos’ ! As an intern I will learn the process of creating, marketing and managing a fashion commerce website, how to promote fashion products online and through traditional channels, all about content marketing and social media, the process of trend forecasting; how Fame&Partners takes inspiration online to create a monthly capsule collection, the process of designing a dress from market research to design to specification, about the fabric selection and sourcing process, the production process for manufacturing formal dresses, the process of offering styling support and advice and potentially have the opportunity to attend industry events!

As an intern I will be responsible for contributing to the design process for the active capsule collection, contributing to the development of marketing materials, attend photo shoots where required as a styling assistant, researching key celebrity trends, researching key fashion trends, posting social media posts,writing blog articles, customer service support where required and attend industry events if the opportunity arises. Winning this opportunity would be a huge jumpstart to my career and would greatly help me in achieving my goals.

My goals in fashion are as follows: God willing I will launch a fashion line self-entitled HalimahNia, with designs featured in every major city in the world. The clothing line will be featured in a local store, or my own HalimahNia store based there. This will not only offer a beautiful product but produce positive financial and educational opportunities for millions of young men and women all over the world as well. I will host fashion shows around the country to raise money for charities. Particularly organizations that fight against sex-trafficking, encourage knowledge for self and black history for inner city youth (such as my former institutions of learning Muhammad University of Islam), and encourage self-love and respect for women and girls (like a powerful organization based in Detroit, Michigan, FromGirls2Goddess).

I want to use my fashion and business skills to creatively host fashion shows that are entertaining, promote modest fashion, and produce proceeds that can support positive causes. I will also have my designs featured in New York, Milan, Paris, and Tokyo’s fashion runways. In order to accomplish these aspirations I need to gain more knowledge and skill, this internship will grant me the opportunity to do just that.
