Deric Muhammad and Lone Star College -North Harris will be joining forces for the annual “Smart’n Up” Black Male Summit on Education, Survival & Success. It will be hosted on Saturday, December 2 at 11am on the campus of Lone Star College – North Harris (4141 Victory).
Deric Muhammad has expressed that “Smart’n Up” is a saying that encourages Black men and boys to make choices based on intelligence vs ignorance. Last year’s summit zeroed in on the importance of having a plan and being highly competitive about the right things in life. The summit is always highly spirited, engaging and filled with a line up of presenters focused on arming attendees with the necessary tools to navigate the ever-present tide of opposition in their path toward self-development. Nobody can argue with the fact that things are not getting easier in America for Black men and boys, but summit goers always walk away with their heads held high–seeing opportunities in the face of adversity.
“Bob McNair sees them as inmates. Trump sees them as “thugs.” The school system sees them as unreachable. The job market sees them as unemployable. If we can influence the way they see themselves, none of this will matter,” said Deric Muhammad in a Facebook post.
