The 22nd Anniversary of the historic Million Man March/Holy Day of Atonement observance will be held in Newark, New Jersey. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, the National Representative of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and The Nation of Islam, is scheduled to deliver the closing keynote on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Newark Symphony Hall. NEWARK—In a time of political and social wailing and gnashing of teeth, a much different tone echoed through a Robert Treat Hotel meeting room as Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan closed the State of the Black World Conference organized by Dr. Ron Daniels and the Institute for the Black World 21st Century.
The election of Donald J. Trump reflects a time and spirit in America that demands a proper response and that proper response is Black unity and an unyielding spirit of self-determination, said Min. Farrakhan.
“Why would I want to vote for continued rule by my oppressor? We have to vote for freedom from the oppressor,” said Min. Farrakhan. Mr. Trump plans to put “teeth” behind Make America Great again and that means pain for Blacks, he continued.
But beyond the November election of Mr. Trump to occupy the White House for the next four years, the truth is neither Democrats nor the Republicans have served Black interests well, he said. The evil of the White man has led to his utter confusion so why would you want to join that party? asked Min. Farrakhan Nov. 20.
He recited words from his teacher, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, who warned against blind faith in American politics and Black politicians willing to sell out the interests of their people for personal benefit. The State of the Black World conference drew an impressive array of Black scholars, thinkers and activists under the theme “It’s Nation Time.” Many were active in the Black Power movement and most embraced Black nationalist, Afrocentric or Pan African philosophies. The conference was dedicated to the late longtime activist and Black Arts movement giant Amiri Baraka, a son of Newark, writer and poet. His son, Ras Baraka, is now mayor, spoke at the conference, and joined the Minister on stage at its close.
The conference was the first major Black gathering since a White voter backlash led to one of the most stunning political upsets in American history. Lifted by White turnout in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, the billionaire, bombastic businessman defeated the highly qualified and highly distrusted former Secretary of State and senator Hillary Clinton. THE DIVINE GRIND: By the way he looks, one could not tell that The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and his delegation had to catch a 6:00AM flight from NC to NY that same morning of this May 23rd taping of The Breakfast Club. After landing, he went to a hotel near the airport but instead of resting, as some would think he should, he called up people to his suite for a lengthy meeting. Yes, a lengthy meeting full of wisdom and work. He then asked to be excused so he could prepare himself to depart the hotel and head over to the Power 105.1 studios in Manhattan. The entourage weaved through intense NY traffic. I am always in awe of how the E-Team does everything in preparation to move The Minister from place to place. Even if the destination is ten minutes away, the attention to detail is STILL the same. It’s not a game. It’s not for show or vanity. It’s serious business they way they move out.
That Breakfast Club interview ended up being over an hour and a half, yet The Minister was still vibrant as he signed books, took photos, and greeted many along with radio personality Angie Martinez and actor/activist Jesse Williams. Afterwards, his delegation headed straight to Newark, NJ—but instead of going to take a rest at the hotel ahead of a scheduled event at Metropolitan Baptist Church–The Minister visited the home of the mother of Mayor Ras Baraka for over an hour. When he finally got to the hotel in Newark, you would think that he would finally get some rest. Nope, he calls up others for another meeting full of wisdom and work. Yes, another meeting! He would then take time to eat just a bowl of bean soup, take a brief rest, and then head over to Metropolitan Baptist Church to deliver a near 2-hour message followed by being bombarded by people who wanted to just shake his hand, hug him and/or take a picture. He spent over an hour in the Pastor’s office after the lecture shaking hands and posing for pictures. Not denying anyone. It’s in those moments, that one of his security personnel has to step in–out of love–and shut things down because the way The Minister is in love with us, he would be there ALL NIGHT with his people…literally…
