In Self-Improvement: The Basis for Community Development [Study Guide 20: Closing the Gap], The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan wrote, “One day Master Fard Muhammad told the Sisters that a time would come when they would let the devil into their living rooms and entertain him. Little did we know that when the television was made, and we put it in our living rooms that the wicked ideas of a satanic mind that governs this world would come into our homes and spoil our women and children.”
An expectant mother whose greatest desire is to give birth to a god must make tremendous sacrifices. She must walk her post in a perfect manner, keeping always on the alert. She must be vigilant; observing and protecting herself and her child from wicked ideas and images coming from a satanic mind. Casual, everyday activities that usually seem mundane and nonconsequential are anything but;especially when life is forming in the womb. Most pregnant women are naturally more careful about what they consume during this delicate stage – they are conscious of food, drinks, medications, caffeine intake, etc. Women are also very careful when deciding which physical activities are safe to participate in while pregnant. But what is often overlooked is what we consume mentally, such as our entertainment habits.

During his How to Give Birth to a God lecture series, The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said to the Sisters, “The trainer and the teacher, the shaper and the molder is you. So, what is in you, mother, is what’s going to be in your child. And since you make his brain, then what does your brain constantly think about? Is it the soap opera? You’re making a baby, ‘Hold it baby, hold it now…Let’s put on the General Hospital; All My Children, that’s on.’ Now you call your friend: ‘Yes honey and that woman murdered that man!’ See you’re thinking about murder; you’re thinking about all these negative things while you’re producing a new life. It’s better to turn off the TV while you’re pregnant. Don’t go to no movies and hear somebody saying, ‘m-f’ and ‘f-you’ and ‘You S-O-B’ – and you’re looking at death and murder, and mayhem, and you’re bringing your pregnant wife and little babies that you’re nursing…”
Violence, sex, profanity, madness and lies are laced in every form of entertainment – television shows, movies, music, etc. All of which are now easily accessible on our mobile devices. So, today the devil is not only in our living rooms; but we are now able to entertain him everywhere we go. Soap operas may not be as popular in 2018, but they have been replaced with foolish reality shows that are becoming more and more outrageous.
Let’s look at what happens at the movie theatre. Why should we sacrifice going to the movies while pregnant? Our unborn child cannot distinguish which thoughts are being directed towards him or towards someone or something else. This is because thoughts do not instantly compartmentalize. So, when we are in the theatre watching a movie filled with mayhem, murder, death, pandemonium and filth – on a mega screen with thunderous acoustics – we become consumed and atone with that environment in an instant. We become increasingly excited as the plot thickens and the movie reaches its climax. The creepy music begins, which warns us that someone is about to die in a brutal manner; but we cannot take our eyes off the screen – so we watch, then wish we hadn’t. We cannot un-see or un-hear anything. Our heart rate increases, and we realize that we, too, are out of breath as if we were the actual victim. The grotesque image and environment stay with us sometimes for hours after the movie has ended. Are we getting the picture? Profanity, lying and scheming in the plot of a movie works the same way. Our eyes are watching; our ears are listening; and our brain is processing and recording everything coming off the screen. And since thought is liquid, the brain of our unborn baby is easily absorbing the same sensations.
Since the pregnant mother is asked not to go to the movies, her husband should do the same. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said, “You should stay with her because she’ll be quick to think that you’re rejecting her because her shape is changing and you’re running out; you’re always with the boys. When she’s pregnant, you need to be with her…You don’t do crazy things with a woman while she’s carrying your life. You give her good things to look at.”
Television is not as magnified as movies, but it has a similar effect because it is continuous. We must turn off the television for most of the day. In our society it seems that we have an unwritten rule that states, ‘If I am in the same room as a television set, then it must be turned on.’ Many of us fall asleep watching television and then wake up and start the process all over again. What are our brains constantly soaking up? Silly reality shows or sitcoms – watch them once and you’re addicted. Ridiculous dramas that depict Black people, in particular, in the most degenerating roles; but we think that it’s harmless entertainment. We consume music videos filled with filthy lyrics about sex and debauchery; not to mention the barrage of images showing our scantily dressed sisters parading about. We fill our heads with so much foolishness on a daily basis and then wonder why our children are so heavily inclined to sex, violence and profanity. It’s time to stop the madness and break the cycle.
Our poor choices for movies, television shows and music while pregnant are evidence that there is no reverence for the womb; nor is there reverence for the mind. Righteous women and men should be focused on producing children that are going to put an end to the filth that is being promoted through these channels. Women must desire to co-operate with God in the procreation of human life. She should be feeding on wisdom, feeding on the Word of God and showering nothing but love on the womb. It’s interesting that Master Fard Muhammad said that we would entertain the devil; not the devil will entertain us. The devil is killing us, butwe are handing him the knife. The enemy only exists because we feed and nourish him constantly. “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you!”
